D.A.R.E.

D.A.R.E.(Drug Abuse Resistance Education) is a comprehensive prevention education program designed to equip school children with skills to recognize and resist social pressures to experiment with tobacco, alcohol, other drugs and violence. This unique program utilizes uniformed law enforcement officers to teach a formal curriculum to students in a classroom setting. D.A.R.E. gives special attention to fifth and sixth grade students to prepare them for entry into intermediate & high school, where they are most likely to encounter pressure to use drugs.

Town Hall Meeting

Town Hall Meeting - Public School Closures
On Saturday January 23, 2010, Hugh hosted a Town Hall Meeting on Public School Closures at the Fulton Place Community League Hall. The meeting was well attended, including representatives of the Edmonton Public School Board.  The Edmonton Public School Board's Ten Year Facilities Plan 2009 - 2018 uses old facilities data, which shows a decline in district enrollment. Hugh wrote a letter to the Board Chair, pointing out recent Provincial data, which shows an increase in enrollment. Health Care Rally

On Saturday May 9, 2009, I was privileged to attend and address the attendees of a rally which was organized by the Friends of Medicare. Hundreds of passionate health care advocates descended on the Alberta legislature grounds. They were there to fight for the maintenance and improvement of publicly funded health care in this province. It is something which I wholeheartedly believe in and I admire all those who attended for their involvement in this debate.
